Natural Resource and Water Source

Natural water source, mostly are the shallow water well, artesian well, and small pond in villages that used for drink and use as well as for agricultural activity. Satun covers the area of 1,549,361 Rai (about 2,478.997 square kilometers). There are 18 national reserved forestry areas; 13 of land forestry and 5 of mangrove forest as follows:

1. 5 national reserved forests, 277,436.55 Rai.è
2. 13 land forests, total areas of 452,538 Rai
3. 3 national parks: Thaleban National Park (122,500 Rai), Tarutao National Park (931,250 Rai), and Mu Koh Petra National Park (187,656.25 Rai).
4. 2 wildlife reserved areas (total areas of 137,493 Rai): Khao Bantad Wildlife Reserved Areas (88,250 Rai) and Ton Nga Chang Wildlife Reserved Areas (49,243 Rai).
5. 1 Wildlife Sanctuary: Nong Plak Paya Wildlife Sanctuary (12,770 Rai).

There are 13 land forests:

1. Khuan Bo Nam Forest.
2. Khao Khom Forest.
3. Khuan Barai Forest.
4.Payom Ngam Forest.
5. Tra Forest.
6. Khuan Thang Forest
7. Khuan Toh Om Forest.
8. Kubang Forest.
9. Huay Buang Forest.
10. Hua Kaming Forest.
11. Khuan Kalong Forest.
12. Khao Mayok Forest.
13. Dong Chuek Chang Mangrove Forest.

Water Source

Significant natural water source for agricultural activity and consumption are:è
1. Klong La-ngu. The water source is around the southern mountain range of Trang and Songkhla.
2. Klong Lamlone Noi Its water source is around Khao Kheio, Khao Khrai, and Khao Toh.
3. Klong Baraket Its water source is around Khao Sam Roi Yot.
4. Klong Mambang Its water source is around the mountain range between Amphur Khuan Kalong and Amphur Khuan Don.
5. Klong Tha Chine Its water comes from the mountain range near Malaysia in Amphur Muang.

Besides, there are many more short waterways such as Klong Puyu, Klong Jeh Biland, Klong Thung Rin, while all waterways of Satun are located near the sea where are suitable for hatchery.

National Park
There are 3 national parks with total areas of 4,054.90 square kilometers or 2,537,512.50 Rai: Tarutao National Park, Thaleban National Park, and Mu Koh Petra National Park.

Minerals

According to the geology of Satun, there are stone layers in different ages that provides the mineral resources in many places such as barite in Amphur Thung Wa and Khuan Kalong, antimony in Amphur Khuan Kalong and La-ngu, tin Amphur Khuan Don and Khuan Kalong. Moreover, other ores are available such as coal, limestone, and wolfram.
In 2004, Satun provided concession to 3 mining (45 workers) that made income of 2,989,470 Baht.
Mining in Satun is still of small size with only few are authorized as follows:

1. Antimony mining in Amphur Khuan Kalong and Amphur La-ngu.
2. Antimony-lead mining in Amphur La-ngu.
3. Antimony-lead-wolfram mining La-ngu.
